How to Love Star Wars All Over Again: Watch It with Kids

I'm watching Return of the Jedi with The Princess and The Padawan. This is the first time my son's watched it.  Every space scene, he exclaims "Woooow!"  It makes me remember how awesome the special effects are.  The 1980s special effects, of course!

Update: Heh heh...now they're swinging their lightsabers whenever Vader and Luke fight!

  1. How old are they?! My 7 year old has been begging to watch it... but not sure my 5 year old is ready.
I remember Return of the Jedi in the theatre - I was 8, so....
    maybe it's time.

  2. She was four when she first watched it, he's two and a half now. I wasn't planning on showing it to them until they were MUCH older (about 8, actually!), but they asked, and I couldn't avoid the opportunity to indoctrinate them! ;-)

I wouldn't blame you for waiting. The films can be pretty violent at times. But in my daughter's case, Star Wars has definitely helped her develop a strong and independent personality. I take every opportunity to point out that Princess Leia didn't actually NEED rescuing: Luke just opened the stupid door.
