Okay, so I'm a couple days late on talking about Disney buying Lucasfilm from George Lucas and announcing the slated release of Episode VII in 2015.  Cut me some slack, we just moved halfway across the country!

I just have to say I am so ridiculously, unbelievably giddy.  As I was finishing listening to the 2.5+ hour Forcecast about the announcement on the way to pick up my wife, I was literally bouncing up and down with excitement.  Yes, literally.  When I was explaining my excitement to my wife, I actually got choked up at the thought of camping overnight with my daughter at a Star Wars premiere, an experience I thought I'd never get to share with her.

Oh, and for all those that piss and moan about Star Wars being owned by The Mouse:
Deal with it. This is my daughter's dream come true.
More thoughts after the jump.

I Built a Bucket of Bolts!

Hi, folks!  First, no, this blog hasn't been abandoned. After three years of grueling schooling, I've been taking a good long break with the family.

But that's not what this post is about.  This post is about the computer program of my dreams: LEGO Digital Designer.  For a good 15 years, I have desperately wanted a good LEGO building computer program, especially since LEGOs have become so insanely expensive.  Well, apparently LEGO made one.  And it does everything you would ever want a LEGO building program to do.  And it's free.

Naturally, after screwing around with it for a few minutes, the first question I asked myself was "Exactly HOW good is this program?"  So I downloaded the instructions for the Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon (which holds a record for the most pieces in a prepackaged set) to put LDD through its paces.  5168 pieces later...
Turns out, it's pretty freaking awesome.
UPDATE: Okay, I'm having trouble getting the model uploaded to LEGO's servers, so until they get back to me, I've uploaded it to Mediafire here.  Download and enjoy!

UPDATE 2: Well crap.  When I started this project, nobody else had tried to make this in LDD.  Apparently since then, user Wigamondo uploaded his version, so there's a good chance LEGO won't even post mine (though I'd argue mine is slightly better...but then I'm horribly biased).  If you want to download his version, just go to the LDD gallery and search for his username.

Check out the full build gallery after the jump.

Kids Can Be So Cruel (or My Daughter Learns the Force Isn't Real...from a Certain Point of View)

So, I recently had to have a very difficult talk with The Princess about the Force.  No really.  You see, we'd always let her open doors using the Force while we pushed the handicap button, or push me over with the Force while we were dueling with lightsabers.  But both my wife and I thought she knew deep down that we were having fun.  Well, apparently she genuinely, wholeheartedly believed she could wield the Force.  In and of itself, I wouldn't consider this a bad thing, no worse than believing in Santa Claus.  Except that kids--and by kids, I mean the little shits in her Kindergarten class--are cruel, and revel in each other's misery.

I Saved a Horse (and Didn't Have to Ride a Cowboy to Do It)!

So this past weekend we were driving up to Spokane for Mother's Day.  It was your typical, boring-ass Sunday drive until about midway up, when traffic practically came to a standstill.  As we moved further up, we found out why.
Yes, that's a freakin' horse on the freakin' highway.

Happy Mothers' Day!

I just wanted to wish you all a Happy Mothers' Day! Today Star Wars Mom put The Princess up in Leia buns, for no other reason than she looks adorable in them.
(That action figure she's holding is Ariel in a "Batgirl mask").

In other news, my buddy's down in Cali having the best nerd vacation ever. Yesterday we had this conversation:

How to Love Star Wars All Over Again: Watch It with Kids

I'm watching Return of the Jedi with The Princess and The Padawan. This is the first time my son's watched it.  Every space scene, he exclaims "Woooow!"  It makes me remember how awesome the special effects are.  The 1980s special effects, of course!

Update: Heh they're swinging their lightsabers whenever Vader and Luke fight!

Itty Bitty Kitty Committee!

Last night I caught my wife singing to our kitten.  I pulled out my phone and started recording her under the guise of messing around with an app.  After I showed it to her, she agreed I could post it...if I only shared the audio.  So I made a montage out of it!

And no, there was no alcohol involved.
